Fashion Revolution | 2020
Fashion Revolution Week has begun! Fashion Revolution (FR) began in 2013 after the devastating Rana Plaza factory collapse where 1,138 people were killed and many more injured. FR encourages millions of people to come together to campaign for systemic change in the fashion industry.
This year we are faced with a new challenge with the novel COVID-19. There has been an undeniably huge impact on the fashion industry as a whole which affects all aspects along the supply chain, beginning with makers and flowing on to suppliers and retailers. With many makers having to lose employment and retailers being forced to cancel orders even after production has begun.
To honour Fashion Revolution this week we are highlighting a handful of retailers whom are supporting ethically sourced and locally made garments and accessories that are made to last, as well as a little feature from our co-founder Michelle on how agt began.
In this new normal we are living through, FR have taken things digitally and are giving you a pass to Fashion Open Studio Online. This year the initiative has been moved to an entirely online format to allow you to stay home and gain insight into the studios and practices of more than 50 designers from 13 different countries and celebrates the designers and brands who are actively finding creative solutions to some of the major challenges facing the industry not just within this pandemic but the challenges faced within the industry every day.
